Hard-fought draw puts Celta in driving seat

SPARTAK Moscow’s hopes of emulating city rivals CSKA’s UEFA Cup win in 2005 took a knock as they were held to a draw by a battling Celta Vigo side.

Celta took the lead in the first half when Antonio Nunez netted with the interval approaching. Maxim Kalinichenko levelled things up after the break.

Silva ze Carlos’s late goal gave Braga the upper hand in their tie with Parma.

The Serie A strugglers held Braga to a stalemate for 81 minutes in Portugal, but Ze Carlos’s strike means they need to score at least once in the return leg.

Goals from Christian Poulsen and former Tottenham striker Frederic Kanoute gave UEFA Cup holders Sevilla a comfortable 2-0 win away to Steaua Bucharest in Romania.
