FAI seek more info on Shels’ future plans

THE FAI will seek more information from Shelbourne FC in relation to the club’s future plans.

The cash-strapped Eircom League side, which is debt to the tune of approximately €4 million, is trying to put together a rescue package, believed to involve chairman of the Irish Sports Council Ossie Kilkenny, in order to stave off creditors. Yesterday the FAI’s First Instance Committee met to discuss the situation.

The FAI statement released last night reads: “The Football Association of Ireland’s First Instance Committee met today to consider issues relating to Shelbourne Football Club.

“They considered the status of the licence issued last December to Shelbourne following their request for specific information earlier in the week.

“The Committee expressed serious concern. They have decided to seek further information from Shelbourne as a matter of urgency. In line with the core process, as outlined in the Club Licensing Manual, no further comment will be made at this juncture.”
