Warnock in the clear over Reading altercation but Gillespie faces long ban

MANAGER Neil Warnock escaped punishment as the Football Association charged Sheffield United, Reading, Royals coach Wally Downes and Blades winger Keith Gillespie following a mass altercation at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday.

The clubs have been charged with failing to control their players and/or officials after incidents during the home side’s 3-1 win, while Downes has been charged with improper conduct.

Blades boss Warnock, who angered Downes with a stamping gesture which was apparently mis-interpreted, has been given a warning but will not face any formal disciplinary action.
