BLACKBURN’S Republic of Ireland midfielder Steven Reid will face further treatment on a knee injury this week amid fears that he has suffered damage to his cruciate ligaments and will be out for eight months.

An injury sustained in training on Friday caused concern among Blackburn staff with initial diagnosis suggesting he has torn knee ligaments which will keep him out until early next season.

The news is a serious blow to Ireland manager Steve Staunton who had hoped to have the Blackburn star back in his squad in March.
