Giggs: United blend will be too sweet for Chelsea
The 33-year-old winger is now in his 16th season with United and he insists he has never felt so good on the pitch.
Giggs said: “I’ve been really pleased with my form. I had a good pre-season, which is always vital, and I seem to have just got off to a flying start. Consistency-wise I think I’m in the best form of my life and I’m really enjoying it, perhaps more than ever.
“I didn’t think I’d be playing as many games this season but Park Ji-Sung got injured and I’ve been forced to play every week, really.
“I’m sure throughout the season I’ll be rested on several occasions – I want to play every game but as you get older you simply can’t. You just want to be as fresh and effective as possible when you do play.”
United’s lead over Chelsea has been trimmed back to two points following the 1-0 defeat at West Ham on Sunday, but Giggs has no doubts that Sir Alex Ferguson’s men – who have made their best start to a season since 1993 – can maintain their pace.
The Welshman says the balance of the side has been an important factor in their success so far.
“It’s a good mixture of experience and youth – it’s exciting to be involved in at the moment,” said Giggs.
“I think everyone was geared up to get off to a good start after the bad ones we’ve had in the previous couple of seasons.
“We’ve ended up playing catch-up with Chelsea and the leads they have had have been too big. But we ended last season strongly, we’ve picked up from there and carried on where we left off.
“Chelsea’s consistency level means that they don’t lose many games and normally when we’d perhaps win the first five or six games, we’d be winning just two or three. Now we’ve just got to carry it on.”
Meanwhile, Alex Ferguson is set to be thwarted in his attempts to sign Owen Hargreaves in the January transfer window but the Manchester United manager may be lining up a double summer swoop from German clubs. Bayern Munich have insisted the England midfielder will not be sold next month, but have hinted things could change in the summer.
Ferguson has also been linked with Germany striker Miroslav Klose, top scorer in the World Cup, who is expected to leave Werder Bremen at the end of the season.
Bayern’s director of football, Uli Hoeness, said: “Nothing is going to happen during the winter transfer window.
“We have to play Real Madrid in the Champions League and we are not going to weaken the team.”
