FA fined over fans’ Croat clashes

UEFA have fined the Football Association £4,222 (€6,200) for improper conduct of England fans before last month’s Euro 2008 qualifier against Croatia.

The Croatian FA have also been fined, in their case £21,113 (€31,355), for a “serious lack of organisation” concerning the match in Zagreb on October 11.

Croatian police detained 187 Croatian fans and 31 English fans for incidents outside the ground, while a further 25 England fans were arrested inside the stadium shortly after kick-off following a clashes with stewards.

Meanwhile German striker Aaron Hunt has been banned for two matches for making racist comments to England players in last month’s Under-21 clash. The Werder Bremen striker was alleged to have abused Micah Richards and Anton Ferdinand during England’s 2-0 win.
