Desperate defending sees woeful Leeds outfoxed

LISTLESS Leeds put in an inept defensive display as they sank further into trouble at the bottom of the Championship with a 2-1 defeat to Leicester.

The home side showed just what a massive job awaits the new manager at Elland Road as goals in each half from Danny Tiatto and Iain Hume sent them crashing.

The foxes, scorers of only two away goals before last night, created chances at will and might have scored more.

Leeds failed to muster an effort worth the name in the second period until the 74th minute, and, even then, it was a shot from distance that Jonathan Douglas fired past the post.

But with ten minutes left the game was effectively ended as a contest as Hume fired past Sullivan into the bottom left corner. United skipper Paul Butler pulled one back when he headed home Gary Kelly’s cross with five minutes left, but it was not enough.

Cardiff maintained their lead at the top of the Championship after Steven Thompson scored a late goal to overcome Southampton. Preston produced a fantastic response after going two down at Ipswich to leapfrog Burnley into the second automatic promotion place with a 3-2 victory. West Brom’s 2-0 victory at Crystal Palace moved them into third.
