But even your so-called ordinary, everyday, run of the mill sporting accident can bring tears to the eyes.

The story is told of cricketer Brian Close being carted off to hospital to have a dislocated shoulder put back in. Close admitted that the pain was excruciating but an unsympathetic nurse was having none of it. “There’s a mother upstairs having twins and she’s not making a fuss,” she rebuked him.
