Sonia dons Sunderland colours in rivals’ heartland

SONIA O’SULLIVAN lived up to her promise of wearing a Sunderland shirt in the heartland of their bitter rivals Newcastle on Sunday.

O’Sullivan competed the Great North Run wearing the colours of the Wearsiders in the Bupa Great North Run.

She persuaded Australian running star Craig Mottram to also wear a Sunderland shirt “so that he can act as a minder for me, just in case!”

O’Sullivan flew into the North East on Friday night and was at the Stadium of Light on Saturday afternoon to cheer on fellow Cork local Roy Keane whose Sunderland side defeated Sheffield Wednesday 1-0.

She said: “Red and white are the colours of my home county Cork, the same place where Roy comes from, so I’m not surprised that he is already feeling at home in Sunderland.”
