Carsley remains keen to resurrect international career

The Everton midfielder recently reversed his decision to retire from international football, although manager Steve Staunton’s weekend call-up for Sheffield United’s Alan Quinn, 27, suggests that he is determined to put his faith in younger players.

Quinn has joined the squad for the Euro 2008 qualifiers against Cyprus and the Czech

Republic, despite speculation Carsley would be brought in to help compensate for the loss of midfielders Graham Kavanagh and Steven Reid.

But Carsley, having confirmed his availability in a conversation with Steve Staunton, is still keen to resurrect his Irish career.

He told evertonTV: “I have spoken with Steve Staunton. We got our wires crossed because he thought I wanted to do something else. I have had a chat now and it is all sorted. Hopefully when the next squad is announced I will be involved.”
