Announcing details of the fixture yesterday, Irish manager Steve Staunton said that he will pick the squad, with Pat Devlin, who holds the title of ‘B’ International manager, advising on its eircom League content. “We’ll have a good look at all the players we have been monitoring since I took over the job — players on the fringes or who have just gone out of the 21s and not made the senior squad yet. There will be 18 at least with maybe a couple coming across from the senior squad.”

There will also be an eircom League representation in the squad, with Staunton revealing that Bohemians striker Stephen Ward and Derry City midfielder Kevin Deery are among the home-based players in the running.

“I will decide who the squad will be, but Pat will have input on who the eircom League players will be,” said Staunton.
