Eto’o suffers racist taunts as Barca claim third win

BARCELONA’S Cameroonian international Samuel Eto’o was targeted by racist taunts after scoring at Racing Santander in the Primera Liga last night.

But the European and Spanish champions eased their way to a 3-0 win at struggling Santander.

Goals from Eto’o, Ludovic Giuly and a Ronaldinho penalty secured the win, their third in three games in the league, to put them level on nine points with Sevilla and Valencia.

Jose Antonio Reyes and David Beckham were on target as Real Madrid beat Real Sociedad 2-0. Reyes opened the scoring in the 70th minute at the Bernabeu and Beckham sealed the victory in the last minute.

Sevilla are top on goal difference after Brazilian midfielder Renato scored a late winner to give them a 3-2 home win over city rivals Real Betis.

The UEFA Cup holders led through Mali’s Frederic Kanoute in the 26th minute, but Betis’s Rafael Sobis scored either side of the break to put the visitors ahead. Kanoute levelled in the 58th minute and six minutes from time Renato scored with a great solo effort to give Juande Ramos’s side victory.

Third-placed Valencia became the first side to score against Getafe this season when Fernando Morientes headed home just before the break and winger Vicente made it 2-0 from the penalty spot in the second half.

Two points further back in fourth are Deportivo Coruna, who beat goal-shy Villarreal 2-0 on Saturday.

Zaragoza beat 10-man Real Mallorca 2-0 at home while Argentine youngster Sergio Aguero scored and won a penalty for Atletico in their 4-1 away victory over Athletic Bilbao.

Roma and Palermo share top spot in Italy’s Serie A after two wins in as many matches yesterday.

Title hopefuls Roma beat Siena 3-1. Brazilian Rodrigo Taddei prodded home from close range shortly after half time, before Chilean playmaker David Pizarro applied the finishing touch to a flowing move involving Francesco Totti and Taddei in the 70th minute. Mario Frick pulled one back three minutes from time but a stoppage-time goal from Stefano Okaka restored Roma’s two-goal cushion. Sicilian side Palermo defeated Lazio 2-1 in Rome where David Di Michele struck twice for the visitors.

Messina came close to joining the pair at the summit, but conceded a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Ascoli.

Fiorentina lost the Tuscany derby, going down 1-0 at Livorno. Cristiano Lucarelli headed the only goal 11 minutes into the second-half.

Goals from Antonio Di Natale and Brazilian Felipe gave Udinese a convincing 2-0 home win over Torino, while the battle between Catania and Atalanta ended goalless. Chievo drew 1-1 at Empoli.

AC Milan beat Parma 2-0 with goals from Clarence Seedorf and a Kaka penalty.

Champions Inter salvaged a point at home to Sampdoria on Saturday.

Francesco Flachi put the visitors ahead with a penalty shortly after half time, before an own goal from Massimo Bonanni levelled the score.

In Saturday’s early match, Rolando Bianchi scored a stoppage-time winner to give Reggina a 2-1 home win against Cagliari.

Paris St Germain returned to winning ways in Ligue 1 as David Hellebuyck’s second half strike proved the difference against Monaco.

Mohammed Kallon put the home into the lead but David Rozehnal equalised just before the break for the visitors before Hellebuyck sealed the win just after the restart.

Lyon’s quest for a sixth consecutive French title continued apace with a 3-1 win at promoted Lorient.

David Gigliotti’s opener and a Benjamin Nivet penalty earned Troyes a 2-0 win over bottom club Nice.

Lille went down to a shock 3-1 defeat to Toulouse.

Steve Savidan’s goal for Valenciennes earned them a 1-0 win over Nantes.

Le Mans made off with the points and a 2-1 win against Sedan.

In the Bundesliga, Hertha Berlin moved to the top of the Bundesliga for the first time in six years with a 2-0 win over Schalke 04 yesterday. Argentine forward Christian Gimenez scored in each half to clinch the spoils for Hertha who move up nine places to nudge FC Nuremberg off the summit on goal difference.

Nurnberg are second following their draw against Bochum and Bayern Munich’s defeat at Arminia Bielefeld.

Nurnberg claimed a 1-1 draw with Bochum at the Franken-stadion but Bayern failed to capitalise.

Mark van Bommel had given Bayern a third-minute lead against Arminia but goals by Artur Wichniarek (25) and Jonas Kamper (83) earned the hosts the three points.

Borussia Monchengladbach and Werder Bremen were both defeated on Saturday. Monchengladbach lost 4-2 at Alemannia Aachen. Werder, following their Champions League defeat at Chelsea, threw away a two-goal lead with a 3-2 home defeat to Stuttgart.

Energie Cottbus jumped to fourth with a 2-0 win over Mainz, and an 81st-minute goal by Dede earned Borussia Dortmund a 1-0 win at home to Hamburg.
