Douglas hopes Leeds move will boost international career

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND international Jonathan Douglas is hopeful that yesterday’s transfer from Blackburn Rovers to Leeds United will finally provide him with the regular football he has been yearning for.

Douglas joined Rovers as an 18-year in 1999 but had to wait until the 2002-03 season to make his first-team debut and appearances have been few and far between at Ewood Park since.

Now 24, the Clones native agreed to loan spells at Chesterfield, Blackpool and Gillingham prior to another temporary switch last year to Elland Road, where he played 39 times, including the Championship play-off final against Watford in Cardiff.
