THE FAI has confirmed that Bobby Robson is keen to resume his duties as International Football Consultant to the Republic of Ireland squad as soon as possible after he undergoes surgery for a brain tumour on Wednesday.

However, it now seems clear that the 73-yea-old’s immediate and longer term future in the job will be very much guided by the advice of his doctors.

Robson, who has three times recovered from cancer surgery in the last 10 years, revealed the existence of the tumour over the weekend and insisted that while he will miss the opening European Championship qualifier against Germany on September 2, he is determined to be available for the second qualifier away to Cyprus in October.
