Reid relishing the captain’s role

WITH captain Robbie Keane and vice captain Shay Given ruled out through injury, there was much speculation about who manager Steve Staunton would turn to lead out the Irish team against Holland at Lansdowne Road tonight.

So there was some surprise when Steven Reid joined the gaffer at the top table in Lansdowne Road yesterday — although it quickly emerged that probably no-one was more surprised than Reid himself.
