SOL CAMPBELL has denied going back on his word to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger by signing for Portsmouth, rather than continuing his career abroad.

And he insists he has joined the south coast club with strong ambitions of competing again in Europe and staying in the England squad.

Centre-back Campbell, 31, is Pompey manager Harry Redknapp’s first major signing of the summer — though he has taken Chelsea full-back Glen Johnson on a season-long loan and snapped up midfielder David Thompson on a free transfer.
