Toffees made to pay the penalty

EVERTON lost the second match of their preseason tour of the United States, defeated in a penalty shootout by Mexican side Club America in Houston.

The match started well for the Toffees, who took the lead in the fifth minute from a brilliant Mikel Arteta free-kick.

Lee Carsley and James Beattie missed chances and David Moyes’ men were made to pay in the 90th minute.

America launched a counterattack and Nelson Cuevas hit the target.

Alan Stubbs hit the crossbar in the shootout.
