Jewell faces a fight to sign Dutch midfielder Landzaat

WIGAN manager Paul Jewell is closing in on the capture of Holland international Denny Landzaat.

The Latics are in a straight fight with Spanish Primera Liga side Espanyol for the services of the 30-year-old AZ Alkmaar midfielder.

A delegation from Wigan met with AZ technical director Marcel Brands on Monday, with a party from Espanyol following suit yesterday.

Both clubs have submitted bids for Landzaat, and now AZ are weighing up the offers for a player who still has a year remaining on his current contract.
