American investor targets Newcastle

FORMER Newcastle chairman Sir John Hall has confirmed he is in talks with an American investor who could be ready to launch a takeover bid for the club.

Hall, president at St James’ Park after handing over the reins to Freddy Shepherd in 1997, has had fresh approaches from potential purchasers of his 28.8% stake.

The most significant interest this time around is understood to have come from Polygon Investment Partners, a US-owned investment company.
