Saudi stars forbidden to sup from cup

SAUDI ARABIA’S World Cup footballers have been forbidden from accepting the silver beer tankard awarded to the FIFA man-of-the-match.

According to Bild newspaper, a fatwah has been issued to prevent the players accepting the award as alcohol is forbidden by Islam – the award is supplied by Budweiser.

However, the Saudis have been allowed win bonuses even though they drew 2-2 with Tunisia in their opener because King Abdullah was pleased with the performance.
