Gudjohnsen seals switch to Barcelona
Gudjohnsen has agreed personal terms and passed a medical to clinch a four-year deal at the Nou Camp. The Iceland striker made it clear to Chelsea he wanted to move on after playing a minor part in their second successive title success last season.
The versatile player had become increasingly frustrated towards the end of the season when he was given few first team opportunities and set his mind on a move away.
After talks with the club, Chelsea reluctantly decided to allow him a transfer and the arrivals of Andriy Shevchenko, Salamon Kalou, Michael Ballack and John Obi Mikel made the decision easier for all parties.
Chelsea have not officially confirmed the fee but it is understood to be £8m and Gudjohnsen’s arrival was immediately hailed by Barca captain Carles Puyol.
