The 35-year-old has been appointed despite not having the necessary UEFA Pro Licence, although chairman Steve Gibson and chief executive Keith Lamb are confident of winning approval from the FA Premier League.

Boro have spoken to the Premier League, the Football Association and the League Managers’ Association, and insist the response has been positive.
