NEWCASTLE chairman Freddy Shepherd yesterday launched a broadside at his critics after winning dispensation to appoint Glenn Roeder as his new manager.

The Magpies supremo was celebrating after receiving permission from his fellow chairmen to install the 50-year-old despite his lack of a FIFA Pro Licence. Roeder will be unveiled at a press conference on Monday — and there could be roles too for reserve-team coach Tommy Craig and retired skipper Alan Shearer, as well as experienced midfielder Lee Clark.

But Shepherd hit out after the League Managers’ Association, which had opposed his bid for dispensation, issued a critical statement.
