Coppell signs new one-year contract with Reading

READING boss Steve Coppell has signed a new one-year deal at the Madejski Stadium after leading the club into the Barclays Premiership.

Coppell has previously insisted he is committed to the club despite not signing a long-term deal.

He has been linked with the vacant post at Charlton following Alan Curbishley’s departure but will now lead Reading in the top flight after winning the Championship.

Coppell said: “In my mind there was never any doubt that I’d sign another contract at Reading. It was never an issue for me, as I consistently said when asked about it.

“I know this club well and I understand and appreciate the desire of our chairman and everyone at Reading Football Club to do well next season. We are looking forward to the next challenge, which is infinitely bigger than the last one.”
