Southgate stays at Boro for another two years

MIDDLESBROUGH captain Gareth Southgate has committed himself to the Teessiders by signing a two-year contract extension which will almost certainly see him end his career at the Riverside.

The 33-year-old England international signed to complete another good week for Boro boss Steve McClaren following the acquisitions of Michael Reiziger, Mark Viduka, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Ray Parlour and Bolo Zenden.

Southgate, McClaren’s first signing after replacing Bryan Robson in 2001, has been excellent value for his £6.5million price tag.
