KENNY Cunningham is expecting Birmingham to allow his current contract to expire before deciding whether to offer him a new deal.

The 33-year-old Blues skipper, one of the key performers in establishing his side in the Premiership, has 15 months left of his present contract. Manager Steve Bruce has admitted it is club policy not to allow a player to enter the final year without starting negotiations - but Cunningham is not anticipating an early decision from the midlands club over whether to extend his time at St Andrews.

The Republic of Ireland captain said: “it is sensible from the club’s point of view to view things on a day-to-day basis.”
