Beckham a major doubt for Sevilla clash

DAVID Beckham may miss Real Madrid’s match against Sevilla on Saturday after being forced out of training with a thigh strain.

Beckham a major doubt for Sevilla clash

The England captain, who has been in fine form in recent games, was not able to train for the last two days.

Coach Wanderley Luxemburgo will make a decision on whether the midfielder will be fit on Friday.

Meanwhile, three-times world player of the year Zinedine Zidane has said that he could retire before his contract at Real Madrid expires in 2007.

He said: “I will definitely retire in 2007 and I’m not ruling out going before that but I will take the decision when the moment comes.”

Zidane has been disappointed with both his and his team’s performances this season.

“I can’t say that I’m satisfied with the season. The aim was to win a 10th European Cup and the league.”

“We were knocked out of the Champions League very early and all that is left for us is the league - and that is very difficult now.

“Personally, it hasn’t been a good season but all I’m thinking about now is finishing, having a holiday and returning with my motivation intact.”

Roberto Carlos has revealed that he regrets giving his shirt to the former leader of the club’s Ultra Sur fans.

Carlos handed over his shirt just after the group displayed an anti-immigration banner after the match against Racing Santander.

“I made a mistake of presenting the shirt at that moment,” he said.

“I wasn’t aware of the controversial events that had occurred during the game.

“I’ve suffered because of the colour of my skin and I would never get involved in this sort of thing.”
