BOBBY ROBSON is planning to use this weekend’s FA Cup tie at Southampton to silence his critics and put Newcastle’s stop-start season on the right track.

The manager and his players came under fire from chairman Freddy Shepherd earlier this week for under-performing but Robson is determined the furore created in the wake of that outburst will not undermine his plans for the Saints.

After training on Tuesday Robson held a lengthy meeting with his squad where he spelt out exactly what is required at St Mary’s Stadium this weekend after inconsistencies in the Premiership have left them seventh following three matches without a win.
