Heinze set for £6m United move, says Paris president

PARIS ST GERMAIN president Francis Graille believes Gabriel Heinze will soon complete a £6million move to Manchester United.

Heinze, currently on international duty with Argentina, was one of the most impressive defenders in the French League last season.

United have never disguised their interest in the 26-year-old, who is due to face Brazil on Wednesday and now a deal could be moving closer.

United manager Alex Ferguson has been looking to strengthen his defensive options with Rio Ferdinand receiving an eight-month ban for missing a drugs test.

Celtic manager Martin O'Neill yesterday backed Shaun Maloney to recover from injury and become a prominent first-team member by handing the youngster a new three-year contract.

The talented 21-year-old striker had his season cut short after suffering cruciate knee ligament damage in February and he faces a summer of rehabilitation in the Parkhead gym.

But O'Neill has illustrated just how much confidence he has in Maloney by handing him a new deal.

Juventus have made the unexpected appointment of Fabio Capello as their new coach following the resignation of Marcello Lippi.

Capello, one of the most experienced and highly-rated tacticians in world football, had one year remaining on his contract at debt-ridden Roma but has decided to take up a new challenge.
