Goal-line technology still has flaws

An experiment with a microchip inside a ball has been taking place at five stadia hosting the FIFA U-17 Championships in Peru over the past fortnight.

FIFA president Sepp Blatter and members of the International FA Board (IFAB) are meeting in Lima today when they will be presented with detailed results of the experiment.

It is understood the system has functioned generally well but there are some ‘operational difficulties’ which need to be put right before it can be regarded as foolproof.

A final decision on whether it can be used in the World Cup will be taken at the annual meeting of the IFAB in March.
