Poor display sees Real lose

Manuel Garcia Ramon’s bizarre tinkering combined with an abysmal display heaped more misery on Real Madrid against Sevilla as they sank to gutless 1-0 home defeat.

Poor display sees Real lose

Real Madrid hosted Seville in the Bernabeu in a must-win game which saw coach Garcia Ramon bringing in Michael Owen in place of Ronaldo.

Owen was partnered up-front by Raul as David Beckham reverted to his right midfield slot after spending the weekend’s game on the bench.

Owen and Raul both had good chances on the quarter-hour mark but shot straight at keeper Esteban when it seemed easier to score.

Sevilla stunned the Bernabeu on 18 minutes, when more lax defending from big-signing Walter Samuel let in Brazilian star Julio ‘The Beast’ Baptista to score the only goal of the game.

Spanish results: Valencia 3 Espanyol 0; Albecete 2 Villareal; 2 Athletic Bilbao 3 Mallorca 0; Deportivo 2 Real Zaragoza 3; Getafe 2 Racing Santander 0; Malaga 1 Real Sociedad 5; Osasuna 2 Numancia 0; Real Madrid 0 Sevilla 1.
