Raul to rescue as Di Stefano record is equalled

CAPTAIN Raul came to Real Madrid’s rescue when he equalled Alfredo Di Stefano’s record of 49 goals in the European Cup to earn his side a 1-1 draw at home to Bayer Leverkusen last night.

They are now level on points with Leverkusen in Group B and need to beat Roma in their final pool game on December 8 to ensure their place in the last 16 of the competition.

Real had a chance to snatch the win when Zinedine Zidane manufactured a penalty after going down on the edge of the area under pressure from Leverkusen defender Juan.
