Teams await Setanta Cup final decision

THE VENUE for the Setanta Cup final will be announced next Wednesday morning, once the outcome of the two semi-finals is known - and, depending on those results, the game could yet take place in Cork.

Teams await Setanta Cup final decision

If Linfield overcome Drogheda United on Tuesday night, it is expected that the final - which was played in Dublin’s Tolka Park last year - will be held in Windsor Park, Belfast.

However, a victory for Drogheda, coupled with a Cork win against Shelbourne on Monday, could see the final go to Turner’s Cross. The match will be played on Saturday, April 22.

In other decisions by the Tournament Organising Committee, Drogheda United - who have goalkeeper Dan Connor suspended for the semi-final following his sending off against Cork City - have had their attempt to register another ‘keeper for the competition turned down.

Shelbourne have been fined €5,000 for “persistent non-cooperation in relation to television and liaison issues.” €3,000 has been suspended subject to there being no further problems with the club for the remainder of the tournament.
