Coronation Street fans cry foul so Champions League transferred

Channel chiefs upset viewers of the popular soap in February when they switched it from its regular Wednesday night spot to Tuesdays at 8pm, costing the network up to three million viewers a week.

In May 2001, ITV was swamped with calls from angry viewers who had to wait until 10.50pm for their regular fix of the soap after the final between Bayern Munich and Valencia went to penalties. Now, amid growing concern about a decline in the popularity of ITV1’s flagship show, Coronation Street will be screened at 7.30pm on Wednesdays once again with this season’s Champions League games moving to Tuesday night.
