Dublin City manager Gill resigns after FAI Cup defeat

DUBLIN CITY manager John Gill has resigned following Friday night’s FAI Carlsberg Cup defeat at the hands of Monaghan United, with head coach Noel White assuming temporary control of first team affairs.

Club Chief Executive Ronan Seery said: “Personally I am very disappointed that John has resigned because I know just how much he put into the role and how much he cares about the welfare of Dublin the club.

“On foot of the Cup defeat and given the perilous position of the club in the league, he felt that it was both honourable and proper that someone else be afforded the opportunity to take the club forward.

“John is firmly convinced that Dublin City FC has the players to extricate themselves from the current predicament they find themselves, but he believes that it needs a new face to re-ignite the club and put them back on the road to success.

“Last season’s First Division championship success stands as a tribute to his managerial skills.

“I would like to wish John every success in the future and to place on record the deep appreciation for all that he had done and achieved for this club.”
