Upped prize fund carrot to sweeten merger deal

Currently, the winners of the league receive 18,000, a figure dwarfed by the 150,000 which the victors in this year’s inaugural Setanta Cup can expect to collect. If the merger takes place, clubs could expect a much improved prize fund for the season after next.

It is understood that funding would be generated by new sources of sponsorship which would not conflict with eircom’s continued involvement.
