THE whooping and hollering that greeted Brian Kerr’s entry to a highly-charged conference in the Shelbourne Hotel yesterday said much about the well of goodwill that will offer him spiritual nourishment in the difficult weeks and months that lie ahead.

This was Brian Kerr living the impossible dream: honest journeyman, reaching the top executive post by dint of his hard work, deep passion, and enduring commitment to football.

"This is the biggest job in football," he said with unabashed pride, "for me, it is the biggest job in the world."
