Kewell could stay at Leeds

LEEDS chairman Professor John McKenzie expects Harry Kewell to report back for pre-season training next week. And McKenzie has not ruled out the possibility that the Australian striker will decide to remain at Elland Road.

Kewell with his agent Bernie Mandic is still involved in contract talks with Leeds. A number of clubs are waiting in the wings should he turn down the club's offer of a new deal.

McKenzie is expected to meet the two men next week Leeds return to training on July 9.

"I'd expect to see Harry there with the rest of the squad on Wednesday," McKenzie said:

"I'd hope to see him be part of what we are very optimistic will be a good season."

Mandic named a few of the clubs involved in the chase for Kewell as Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Barcelona.

Chelsea following their acquisition by the Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich are also believed to be interested.

Meanwhile, Barcelona are sounding less optimistic about their chances of persuading the 24-year-old to join them.
