Minute’s silence at all Premiership matches

THERE will be a minute’s silence before every Premiership match this weekend following Best’s death.

A spokesman for the Premier League said: “In light of the sad news of George Best passing away referees have been requested to conduct a one minute’s silence prior to the kick-off at all of this weekend’s Premier League matches.

The silence will be especially poignant at Upton Park where Manchester United take on West Ham tomorrow.

Celtic will stage a minute’s applause in tribute to Best ahead of today’s Premier League game against Dunfermline tomorrow.

The FAI will open a book of condolence on Monday at 1pm at their Merrion Square headquarters. They also announced that a minute’s silence will be observed at the FAI Carlsberg Cup Final between Cork City and Drogheda United at Lansdowne Rd tomorrow week.
