Bayern Munich move to top of Group A
Lokomotiv, who had not scored a goal in their opening two Group B matches, produced a superb display against an Inter team still reeling after the sacking of their Argentine coach Hector Cuper on Sunday.
Lokomotiv took the lead after minutes when captain Dmitry Loskov converted Maxim Buznikin’s cross.
Ashvetia, left unmarked in front of the Inter goal, doubled Lokomotiv’s lead five minutes after the break, firing into the top of the net after another cross from the right.
Seven minutes later Russian international Khokhlov completed the rout with an imperious header from 15 metres. Dynamo Kiev share top spot with Inter on six points, while Lokomotiv have four.
Meanwhile Bayern Munich move to the top of Group A despite Lyon substitute Peguy Luyindula netting a dramatic late equaliser at the Stade Gerland. The visitors led from the 25th-minute when Roy Makaay netted following good work from Roque Santa Cruz and Michael Ballack.
But, after long of pressure Florent Malouda crossed from the left and Luyindula stormed in at the far post to head down and into the net. The hosts still had chances to win it with the best falling to former Bayern hero Giovane Elber but his close range effort was kept out by German international Oliver Kahn.
In Group C, a late goal from striker Diego Tristan allowed Deportivo Coruna to snatch a 1-0 win over Monaco at the Riazor.
The centre forward saw his powerful shot take a deflection off Monaco keeper Flavio Roma and squirm into the net seven minutes from time to allow the Galicians to displace the French side as group leaders.
PSV Eindhoven re-ignited their campaign with a scrappy 1-0 away win over AEK Athens.
The Dutch side’s goal was a gift from inexperienced goalkeeper Christostomos Michailides whose suicidal throw let in Theo Lucius to score in the 37th minute.
Michalidies left defender Michalis Kasapis with too much to do and Lucius robbed him to steer home a shot at the second attempt. Deportivo Coruna lead the group with seven points, followed by Monaco (6), PSV (3) and AEK (1).
Marco Di Vaio and David Trezeguet scored two goals each as Italian champions Juventus beat Real Sociedad 4-2 in Group D to maintain their 100 percent record.
Juve made an explosive start with Trezeguet opening the scoring in just the third minute, latching on to a neat through ball from Mauro Camoranesi before rounding Sociedad goalkeeper Sander Westerveld and slipping the ball home.
Four minutes later Juve doubled their advantage when Pavel Nedved picked out Di Vaio with a superb crossfield pass and the Juve striker burst past Lionel Potillon before firing into the far bottom corner.
Juve’s third came on the stroke of halftime when Di Vaio beat Westerveld.
Trezeguet added the fourth in the 63rd minute before Real pulled one back when Juve defender Igor Tudor turned an Igor Gabilondo cross into his own net. The Spaniards added a second 10 minutes from the end with a thundering free-kick from Javier De Pedro.
Cihan Haspolatli scored the only goal of the section’s other game as Galatasaray overcame Olympiacos CFP to secure their first points.
