REPUBLIC of Ireland Under-21 striker Eamon Zayed got his US Major League Soccer trial off to an impressive start with a goal for the Metrostars.

The striker, Bray Wanderers’ leading scorer in the eircom League First Division last season, has been training with the New York-New Jersey side since the beginning of the month at a camp in Florida.

He scored a second-half header in a 1-1 draw with FC Dallas after coming on at half-time. Former Irish U-21 midfielder and Bray native Ronnie O’Brien, preparing for his third season in MLS with Dallas, also came off the bench.

Zayed, 21, had previous spells with Leicester City and Crewe.
