A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Mexican football federation (FMF) president Alberto de la Torre for tax evasion when he was boss of first division club Atlas.

It is alleged that de la Torre failed to declare club taxes estimated at 34.1 million pesos (€2.2 million) going back to 1998.

“The accountants at the time told me that the club needn’t pay anything. I’m waiting for the current club management to throw light on the situation,” de la Torre said on Mexican television yesterday.
