Nyatanga doubt for Wales

LEWIN NYATANGA could miss out tonight on becoming Wales’ youngest player because of a toe infection.

The 17-year-old Derby defender was set to make his debut against Paraguay, but his fitness will be assessed this morning.

Wales boss John Toshack rates Nyatanga as the best of the emerging youngsters, and was planning to play him alongside Danny Gabbidon at centre back.

“I hope he gets over this foot injury. I want to see him play,” said Toshack. “He has the right attitude; he’s spot on and knows what is needed for him to improve.

“I am learning and now looking forward to playing at the Millennium Stadium - and I feel I can handle the step up,” said Nyatanga.

Nyatanga, at 17 years and 195 days old, will beat Ryan Green’s record as Wales’ youngest international by 31 days if he plays tonight.
