We will win remaining games: Thompson
After a demoralising 4-0 defeat at Manchester United their heaviest against their bitterest rivals for 50
years Thompson has come out fighting.
"We are going to win every one of our remaining games," he said.
The fact that two of the six are away to their closest rivals for the final Champions League spot Everton and Chelsea will make that boast look even braver.
But Thompson said: "There will be nothing less than 100% commitment from everyone else here.
"We owe that to everyone connected to the club. Obviously everyone is extremely low after what happened at the weekend and it hurt us all," he said.
However, Thompson revealed that there was good news regarding the availability of Michael Owen, who missed the United game with a back injury.
"Michael will be fit for Saturday. The United game came too soon for him. The first two days last Friday and Saturday, were the most painful but he'll be okay to face Fulham."
Meanwhile, Newcastle will not make a formal complaint over referee Neale Barry's handling of last Sunday's
crucial Premiership defeat to Everton.
United chairman Freddy Shepherd has revealed that the club will accept Barry's decision not to penalise Everton midfielder Thomas Gravesen for
a heavy challenge on Olivier Bernard in the run-up to his side's winning goal.
Graham Poll did not take charge of an Arsenal game for 12 months after Arsene Wenger complained about his performance in the 3-1 home defeat by Newcastle on December 18, 2001, but Newcastle will not risk being
labelled as whingers despite believing they have been harshly treated.
"It was all a bit of a nightmare for
us and obviously we are not very
happy at what happened," said Shepherd.
"We don't think the referee did himself justice and he certainly cannot be accused of favouring Newcastle United.
"But we are not whingers and we have never been whingers. It's all
in the past now and we will soldier on in the true Newcastle United tradition," said Shepherd.
