Coleraine bankrupt

A last-ditch attempt to save Coleraine from bankruptcy has failed. Supporters produced pledges of money on Monday and the club’s accountants were told to make an improved offer to the biggest creditors, the Inland Revenue.

This offer was rejected so the Bannsiders look like playing their final match against Portstewart in a friendly at the Showgrounds last night. The club will be subject to a winding-up order today, the hearing having been delayed for a week.

Bankruptcy Master Charles Redpath was unable to make a formal order last week because of a legal requirement to advertise the move. The Inland Revenue applied for the move following the club’s failure to settle a debt of £364,979.
