TOTTENHAM captain Steve Carr has revealed how his new-born son kept him sane when injury put paid to his dreams of performing in last year’s World Cup finals and threatened to end his career.

Carr was widely regarded as the best full-back in the Barclaycard Premiership and was looking forward to representing the Republic of Ireland in the Far East last summer.

His 10 years at Tottenham had been injury free, then suddenly he suffered a knee problem which changed his life. Then pain in his knee was muffled at first, but worsened with each game and he found his warm-ups were taking longer.
