Bernard signs Drogheda contract as Bennett agrees new City deal

DROGHEDA UNITED have signed the former Scotland midfielder Paul Bernard to a one-year contract.

The 32-year-old, capped twice for his country, missed most of the last season with St Johnstone through injury and has previously played for Plymouth, Barnsley, Oldham and Aberdeen.

Meanwhile, Cork City defender Alan Bennett has signed a new two-year contract with the club, a full-time commitment which will see him stay at Turner’s Cross until the end of the 2007 season.

In an acquisition of a different kind, the club have also announced that the singer-songwriter John Spillane and his band will perform at Turner’s Cross before City’s second-leg UEFA Cup game against FK Ekranas next Thursday. The entertainment will begin at 6.30pm.
