Van Basten recalls old guard

HOLLAND coach Marco van Basten has recalled several senior players to the squad to face the Czech Republic and FYR Macedonia.

Former captain Edgar Davids, now at Tottenham, has been called up to the 22-man squad along with Middlesbrough’s George Boateng.

Davids last represented Holland in October last year, after which he lost his place because he was no longer playing regular football at Inter Milan.

However, since he made his move to Tottenham, Davids has played himself back into Van Basten’s thoughts.

Edwin van der Sar and Ruud van Nistelrooy (Manchester United), Wilfred Bouma (Aston Villa), Robin van Persie (Arsenal) and Arjen Robben (Chelsea) are all in the squad.
