Cronin to assist Keely at Dublin City

FORMER Cork City and Shamrock Rovers defender Gareth Cronin has taken his first steps into management as Dermot Keely’s assistant at relegated Dublin City.

Cronin, who was with Kildare County for the past two seasons, said he is looking forward to trying to get the Vikings back to the Premier Division.

“I was doing a bit of coaching at Kildare, as I have been out for most of the season with a knee injury, and really enjoyed it.

“When Dermot asked me to help out as his assistant, I jumped at the chance,” Cronin said.

Cronin had spells with Sunderland and Bradford City before returning to Cork in 1993.

Dublin City are one of the few teams in the First Division with money to improve their squad and that was a major factor on Cronin’s decision.

“We could do with a few players to make a push for promotion and we may look to a few of Premier Division teams to give us a few players on loan,” Cronin added.
