Ketsbaia blasts Cypriot FA ahead of Gers clash

ANORTHOSIS Famagusta player-coach Temuri Ketsbaia has criticised the Cyprus Football Association after his team were forced to play a Super Cup game against Omonia ahead of this week’s Champions League qualifying clash with Rangers.

The former Newcastle striker’s complaint echoes Alex McLeish’s comments before the first leg when he questioned the wisdom of the Scottish Premier League in making them travel to Inverness just days before the flight to Cyprus.

Anorthosis come to Ibrox tomorrow trying to overturn a 2-1 deficit from the first leg, but on Saturday they lost 5-4 on penalties to Omonia after the game finished 2-2 after extra-time.

A seething Ketsbaia said: “Unless some people haven’t noticed both sides have some historic games this week.

“Maybe the officials don’t care about our games because it boggles the mind that they would let both sides have to go through extra-time with crucial games coming up in a couple of days.”
